PFBC Huntsdale Hatchery 1953

The following video (flash format) was made from an old 1953 film put out by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.  I have transferred the film to this format for viewing. Understand the original film was degraded to begin with, so this isn't the highest quality but is still very viewable.  Notice what is said about the fish hatcheries versus live stock agriculture!  Judge for yourself how much has changed since then in the overall mentality of the PFBC. This was 1953 and this is basically the beginnings of the massive hatchery programs in Pennsylvania. This is also an interesting look at fish aquaculture and how far we have or have not come in the last 50 years. There is nothing wrong with hatcheries, however, knowing ecologically what we know now don't you think the PFBC should have progressed a little further!  They had to upgrade all their hatcheries because of our study. Because the public and even a few legislators cast a jaundiced eye especially because the PA DEP basically failed to properly contain, analysis and monitor these hatcheries closely until the Big Spring story broke. Note if you can't hear any sound it's because you do not have the proper codec installed on your operating system.
